Sit down, grab your coffee...or a lovely caramel latte. I had one of these at Panera Bread earlier tonight. I was there with Tosh and it was just a delightful night. Every time with my dear friend is a treasured time. Boy, we can cover a lot of topics.
Speaking of topics, just a little over a week ago, we were celebrating 300 posts and I asked for suggestions for posts, things you want to hear about...you had some really great suggestions and I will try to tackle them over the next little while...
I wanted to mention~ we had prizes and I know that the ones of you who won the Shane and Shane CD have not received them because I still have not received mine. Rest assured, they are on their way (I hope!). If I don't hear about one of us receiving our CD soon, I'll hunt them down and make sure we get our sweet music.
Now...back to Tosh and topics...I am going somewhere with this, I promise...one of your suggestions was to write about games I played as a child. When Tosh & I are together, it will often come up somewhere in there about things we enjoyed when we were kids...
We went to school together. She was the first one I met at SBCA (South Bay Christian Academy) when I moved to California from Tennessee at 10 years old (she was 9). We were fast friends.
Can I just insert here that it is impressive that any of us that went to that school can write a coherent sentence or that we know any math facts or history? I'm not saying we (I'm speaking for myself here now) actually do know any history OR math facts...or can write a coherent sentence now that I look back over these paragraphs above, but...moving right along...
We had nice teachers who loved us and who did their best. But we also had some who we could easily distract. There was one teacher in particular...if we could get her to talking, we could avoid an entire lesson. Or better yet, she'd forget about class and we'd just have gym instead. Yeah, it was fun like that.
There was an open field to the side of the school (church) that we spent HOURS playing in...our recesses seemed to last for very long amounts of time. You know that's saying something as a child...for a recess to seem long. But maybe they just couldn't find all of us out in that field and just kept letting us continue to play. Whatever the reason, we loved it. We weren't complaining! Tosh and I climbed trees, ran with our hair streaming behind us in our little checked uniforms...wild little ragamuffins we were out in that "prairie."
There was one tree that you could step wayyyy out onto the branch and bounce up and down. It would dip far down and pop right back up. So fun.
We'd laugh until one of us would wet our pants. I'm not naming names.
One of our favorite things to play was Little House on the Prairie. I was always Laura...because, well, my name is Lori...naturally! Tosh was Mary. Another favorite was Charlie's Angels. I was always the Jaclyn Smith character...Tosh was Farrah Fawcett or Cheryl Ladd.
We didn't own a television, but we still knew all about these shows. I believe we played Love Boat a few times too...
When we were at my house, one of my favorite things to do was to lean over her upside down...and then talk...have you ever tried that? Your mouth looks HYSTERICAL upside down and your chin looks like a funky nose. Try it sometime. Guaranteed laughs. I remember doing this with my friend, Deanna, too, and my mama...I can still picture how my mama looks upside down. :)
Ahhh, such good times. Don't you love how it feels to play? I miss loving to play like that. I don't get the urge to climb trees nearly so much as I did back then. I haven't played Laura in a long time. I did do a Jaclyn Smith impression recently when she was on that hair show, but that's the extent of my Jaclyn reenactment...
I'm so blessed that I still have my childhood friend in my day to day life. I don't take it for granted for a second. She is an extension of me and always will be. And even though I haven't seen her play Farrah Fawcett in a really LONG time, she's still every bit as fun.

Wonderful memories....so glad that your friendship has grown and deepened over the years.....and that you have been, are, and will be best friends! A very sweet blessings from God!
The teacher.....that's me....my kids and now my grandkids are learning how to distract me so that I never get back to the subject they don't want to discuss....:)
Maybe the teachers enjoyed that long recess time too. :)
Great blog! Can't wait to hear more!
Ummm I'm sorry- you lost me at Latte- Umm and Panera- Double yum. Kidding. So glad that you have a great friend like that in your life. So few people can say they still have a friend in their life that they met so long ago. I would give money to see you two out there in that prairie.
At least you never played "project" hmm maybe it has to do with where I was raised huh?
Happy Weekend! C
What fun memories! I saw a group do the upside down thing at a ladies retreat - but they sang! It was hysterical - they even put little eyes on their chins. I'm blessed to still have many of my childhood friends since I only moved 200 miles away from home.
I love reminiscing with you. Who would of thought that a life long friendship was started on the blacktop of SBCA.
And I must say probably you are the only one who can write a coherent sentence:) Maybe coming to SBCA at 10 years old saved you a bit:)
Just to refresh your mind my friend, I was Carrie when we played Little House. Destini was Mary. Remember?
I hope our girls have as much fun as we did when we were young.
I have sooooo many memories of that field. Love them ALL.
My heart is heavy my friend. I love you with all my heart.
I trust God has his hand on you and many blessings are going to come to you and your family.
I can't wait until our next little car confessions:)
Your the best!
Love You
i KNEW when i said "mary" that wasn't right!!! CARRIE!!! of course. and, aw, destini...totally mary.
i think we all turned out surprisingly smart. :)
xoxo
What a sweet beautiful post Lori! Having a childhood friend still today is like one of the Lords greatest gifts....like at those marriages that never last, so, when someone stands up and says ya we have been married 25/50 yrs everyone goes WOAH!! that is the same with your friendship! AWESOME!
I LOVE the upside down thing! My daughter made a video and even used scarfs and stuff for hats and such. We crack up EVERYTIME!
Thanks for sharing in the memories....You bless me so very much my friend
Lori - What an unbelievable small world!! I didn't realize you went to South Bay Christian Academy. Do you realize that my cousin is Art Hodges (pastor at South Bay UPC)? Thus my maiden name Hodges. I had no idea you were in that area growing up. I was there many times myself during those years. At the church and at the school. Well Well Well!
T- I know Art Hodges! How crazy. I grew up in San Jose, though, and he was in the Southern CA area...but we ran into their quiz team at all the tournaments...they were our heavy duty competition. :)
